Macleod Cottage Respite

A little break is closer than you think

As Victoria’s most experienced aged care provider, we know how important carers are, and the importance of taking a little break from your care responsibilities. Macleod Cottage offers you peace of mind and a well-deserved break, by providing a compassionate and experienced team of experts to support the person you care for while they stay with us.

What is Macleod Cottage?

Macleod Cottage is a small, home-like environment that accommodates up to eight people during the day and three overnight (subject to COVID-19 restrictions). The cottage offers vital support to the carers and family of older people who are no longer able to fully care for themselves.

Located in Melbourne’s outer north east, Macleod Cottage offers carers or family members the chance to have a day off here and there, or even return to work knowing the person they care for is well supported.

Our respite care hours are entirely flexible. We can provide for a gradual and gentle introduction to the service at Macleod Cottage, as well as the option to extend for up to 10 hours a day for people returning to work. Overnight respite is available six nights a week. Our team is also qualified and experienced in supporting people living with dementia.

Every person who attends Macleod Cottage is encouraged to live life the way they choose. They are supported to socialise with others and participate in a diverse range of activities, or pursue their own individual interests.

With five bedrooms, including one for couples, our cottage offers a safe environment with all the comforts of home. Overnight respite can be arranged on an occasional, regular, planned or short stay basis. It can vary from one night up to six consecutive nights.

Macleod Cottage provides all our clients with meals including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and supper. We also cater for special dietary requirements.

We understand that sometimes transport can be difficult to coordinate, especially if you work and care for someone. A Mercy Health Home Care Worker (HCW) can be arranged to transport the person your care for, to and from Macleod Cottage for their respite stay.
